The search and rescue vessel Ocean Viking, operated by Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and SOS Méditeranée, has rescued 356 migrants and refugees in the central Mediterranean. MSF's rescue operations took place after the Italian government ordered the seizure of ships carrying unauthorized migrants that attempted to dock in Italian ports without permission and announced fines of more than $1.1 million for such ships.
