Heavy clashes between Afghan security forces and armed opposition groups in Afghanistan's northeastern Kunduz Province resulted in a surge in wounded patients arriving at the Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) trauma center in Kunduz city. From June 20 to 23, MSF medical teams treated 77 patients directly wounded in the fighting, one-third of whom were women or children.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has learned that the Chinese patent office has just denied Gilead Science’s request for a key patent on the hepatitis C drug sofosbuvir. This drug, together with other antivirals, is the backbone of several newer, more effective curative treatments for hepatitis C, yet is exorbitantly priced in many countries, restricting access for people who need it. Hepatitis C is a global public health crisis, with at least 150 million people living with the disease, and 350,000-500,000 people die each year from complications of it.

On Tuesday, June 2, 2015, a helicopter delivering humanitarian aid crashed in Sindhupalchowk district, Nepal. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) regrets to confirm the death of three of its staff members in this crash. The team was delivering much-needed medical and humanitarian assistance in Sindhupalchowk district when the accident occurred. MSF extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends of our staff, and to those of the pilot of the helicopter, who was also sadly killed.

On Tuesday, June 2, 2015, a helicopter delivering humanitarian aid crashed in Nepal's Sindhupalchowk district.

We can confirm that the flight was chartered by Doctors Withtout Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and we are currently working to confirm the identities of the victims of the crash.

MSF extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of all of the people who lost their lives in this accident.

Ten days ago, Bibi was admitted to MSF's trauma center in Kunduz, after receiving two bullet wounds as she and her family fled increased fighting in the region.

Following a first earthquake on April 25, a second earthquake hit Nepal on May 12, this one with an epicenter 80 kilometers [about 50 miles] east of Kathmandu, in Dolakha district. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are conducting assessments in the affected areas, including Dolakha itself, and have already seen some villages in the Charikot area that were destroyed by this second quake.

Over a week has passed since a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit the Nepali districts of Dhading, Gorkha, Rasuwa, and Sindhupalchowk, and many villages have yet to receive humanitarian assistance. While the most critically injured people were evacuated in the days immediately after the earthquake, those who remained are trapped in their villages, as avalanches and landslides have cut off roads and walking paths.
