Heavy fighting in central and northern Helmand Province between the Afghan forces and opposition forces has led to an increase in the numbers of war-wounded presenting to the Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)-supported Boost Hospital, in Lashkargah. During the most intense phase of the fighting, from June 21 to July 5, MSF medical teams working in the hospital treated 68 patients with injuries related to the clashes.

In the past week week, renewed clashes between Christian youths and young Muslims have been producing more victims in Bangui, capital of Central African Republic (CAR). Some of them have been treated at the city's General Hospital, where Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) supports the emergency surgery service.

In the village of Salem, near Hebron, a Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) psychologist named Wissam meets with a woman called Um Taha for the second time. She is 48. Her husband died five years ago and she lives in Salem with her nine children.

Um Taha’s 28-year-old son was recently arrested by the Israeli army. Troops stormed the house one night, beat Um Taha and aimed a gun at her, she says. They also turned the house upside down, destroying everything they found.

Angel Corate gave birth to baby Janel on December 16 by Caesarean section. She underwent this lifesaving operation, and she and Janel received ongoing care, at the maternity ward and newborn unit in the Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) inflatable hospital in Tacloban. Nine days later, Angel and Janel were discharged on Christmas Day, just in time to celebrate with their family.
