"The bombing of civilian targets, with or without warning, is a serious violation of international humanitarian law. It is even more serious to target a whole province.

The conflict in Yemen currently has the country divided between the Houthi movement, supported by former president Saleh, which controls the north of the country (including the capital Sana’a) and continues its southward advance, and an anti-Houthi coalition based mainly in the South.  President Hadi of the transitional government fled to Saudi Arabia in March.

Scores of people have been wounded in fighting in Yemen over recent days, with many treated at the Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) hospital in the southern city of Aden.

Clashes in Aden have increased after Houthi fighters entered the city this morning. Looting is ongoing amidst the clashes and general chaos. The MSF hospital in the city has so far received 80 injured people today. More are coming.

DUBAI/PARIS—The international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) received 63 wounded patients at its hospital in Aden, Yemen, on March 19 following heavy armed clashes in the city.

Fighting between forces loyal to President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and the Special Security Forces, a unit loyal to Yemen's former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, erupted in Aden in the early hours of March 19 and continued throughout the day around Aden International Airport, forcing its temporary closure.

For weeks, the East Ghouta rural area near Damascus, Syria, has been besieged by intense bombing on an almost daily basis. AA and AK are two paramedics from the besieged East Ghouta area near Damascus who asked to remain anonymous. Working with hospitals that MSF provides regular support to, they describe their struggle to respond after the bombing of a public square on January 23.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is deeply saddened by the reported death of the American humanitarian aid worker, Kayla Mueller. Our thoughts are with her family during this very difficult time.  

Despite media reports, MSF wishes to clarify that at no time was Ms. Mueller employed by MSF, either in Syria or anywhere else.
