BARCELONA/NEW YORK, MAY 27, 2016  — Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is evacuating most of its staff and patients from Al Salamah hospital in northern Syria after an Islamic State offensive in Azaz, in Aleppo governorate, approached the area.

Last year, 75 hospitals managed or supported by international medical organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) were bombed. This was in violation of the most fundamental rules of war, which give protected status to medical facilities and its patients, regardless of if the patients are civilians or wounded combatants.

Gaziantep, Turkey, April 28, 2016Fourteen people, including at least two doctors, were killed Wednesday night in the bombing of a hospital supported by Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, the medical humanitarian organization said today.

According to hospital staff on the ground, the Al Quds hospital in Aleppo was destroyed by at least one airstrike which directly hit the building, reducing it to rubble. Other airstrikes in the neighborhood also hit areas close to the hospital.

Valletta, Malta, April 24, 2016 — The international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) resumed  search, rescue, and medical aid operations in the central Mediterranean Sea, conducting its first operation of 2016 this weekend.

On April 23, the MSF vessel Dignity 1 accepted a transfer of 308 rescued people (205 men, 80 women, 23 children), mainly Eritrean, from an Italian rescue boat. The Dignity 1 is now on its way to Sicily where the 308 people will disembark on Monday.

Gazientep, Turkey—More than 100,000 people are trapped at the Turkish border in the Azaz District of Aleppo Governorate in northern Syria, as the front line in fighting between an active Islamic State group and Kurdish forces gets closer, said the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) today.

Fighting in Aleppo Governorate has grown increasingly intense over the past week, as new offensives have brought even more misery and uncertainty to the region. This past Thursday, the frontlines reached the outskirts of displacement camps in the area, and some camps in Azaz District were attacked.

The new offensives have again forced tens of thousands of people to flee towards the Turkish border in search of safety, but whether or not they will be able to find sanctuary remains an open question.

SANAA/BARCELONA, MARCH 16, 2016—Medical teams working for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Abs Hospital, Yemen, treated more than 40 patients injured in two deadly airstrikes on a marketplace in Khamis village, Mustaba District, northern Hajja Governorate March 15. Two people died in transit to the hospital, and four patients arrived in critical condition, including an eight-year-old child who was referred to a specialist for neurosurgical care.

"A resolution is a welcome step but only if it shows an unwavering commitment to ensuring that health workers, facilities, and patients never come under attack. Several permanent members of the United Nations Security Council have over recent months been engaged in, or have supported, military activities resulting in destruction of health facilities. Therefore, any new resolution will require states in the security council, notably the permanent members, to lead by example.
