New York/Lusaka, Zambia—The largest cholera vaccination campaign ever began today in Zambia’s capital, Lusaka. International medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is working in close collaboration with the Zambian Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization to vaccinate more than half a million people in the next two weeks to curb the outbreak that began in February in the city’s overcrowded township areas.

SANAA/BARCELONA, MARCH 16, 2016—Medical teams working for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Abs Hospital, Yemen, treated more than 40 patients injured in two deadly airstrikes on a marketplace in Khamis village, Mustaba District, northern Hajja Governorate March 15. Two people died in transit to the hospital, and four patients arrived in critical condition, including an eight-year-old child who was referred to a specialist for neurosurgical care.

BUJUMBURA, BURUNDI—The international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) treated 60 injured people at its trauma center on Monday after grenades exploded in several Bujumbura neighborhoods. 

The MSF team launched a mass casualty plan on Monday morning to treat the rapid influx of wounded, triaging to treat the most serious cases first.

"We opened a second operating room and performed five emergency surgeries in the hours that followed," said Richard Veerman, MSF program manager.

But MSF warned that turning this new recommendation into reality would require dramatically increased support from donors and governments.

BRUSSELS/NEW YORK—Three missiles struck a town in Idlib Governorate, Syria, yesterday afternoon causing mass casualties and carnage, the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said today.

A local MSF-supported field hospital received an influx of 130 wounded people. As violence continues unabated in Syria, MSF calls for a massive increase of emergency assistance to Syrian medics working on the front lines.

Escalating fighting in South Sudan is exposing civilans to widespread violence and severely restricting the provision of desperately needed aid, the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said today.

An upsurge of violence in Unity, Jonglei and Upper Nile states has resulted in the suspension of medical services, destruction of health structures and evacuation of medical staff.
