One in five people caught in emergencies and conflicts experiences depression and anxiety. MSF provides mental health care alongside our medical services in humanitarian emergencies all over the world. Some of our patients have joined our staff, and are now able to help others who need mental health support.

Some 360,000 people have been forced from their homes in Marawi City, the Philippines, as the military tries regain control from fighters allied with the Islamic State group. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is providing clean water and mental health counseling to thousands of displaced people taking shelter wherever they can find it—in garages, warehouses, schools, and mosques near the city.

Khalil is one of more than 430 people from over 40 countries treated by the Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) project Victims of Torture in Athens since it opened in 2014. Khalil was wrongly accused and imprisoned in Syria where he underwent brutal, sustained torture. He is now in Greece, walking on crutches from the electrocution he sustained, and hoping for recovery.
