A brutal stretch of winter has just passed, but Syrian refugees living in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley are still struggling amidst the deplorable living conditions they’ve endured for years now. The season is almost irrelevant at this point. If it’s winter, they must contend with frigid nights and heavy snowfalls that often collapse their flimsy tents. In summer, they’re exposed to extreme, arid heat. Rains at any time bring floods and mud as well. And, regardless of the month, they have little access to the sort of health care so many of them urgently need.

As fighting escalates in eastern Ukraine to a level not seen since August, the situation for civilians caught in the conflict zone is now dire. With doctors working in hospitals close to the frontline struggling to treat the wounded with dwindling supplies, Doctors WIthout Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are stepping up their support, but continued heavy fighting is preventing them from reaching the hardest-hit areas.

Tens of thousands of people in Myanmar’s Rakhine state are able to access basic health care and emergency referral from medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) for the first time in over nine months. Following instructions to MSF Holland to cease activities last February, these primary health clinics restarted on December 17, 2014.

The newly formed Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Yemen Emergency Pool (YEP) has conducted a visit to Al Bayda governorate to provide medical consultations as well as non-food items to internally displaced people (IDPs) fleeing the conflict which has been affecting the area for months.
