ADEN, YEMEN—Amid ongoing shelling in the Yemeni port city of Aden, hospitals are overwhelmed as civilians come under increasing fire, said the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), which treated more than 100 people injured in shelling yesterday.

Two months into the conflict in Yemen, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are providing humanitarian aid and medical care to people living near the frontlines who are desperate for assistance. In Taiz, the country’s third-largest city and home to 1.2 million people, an MSF team is providing local hospitals with support, medical supplies, and drugs. Yemen's Khamer town has seen a recent influx of internally displaced people (IDPs) who arrived after fleeing airstrikes and the deteriorating situation in Sa’ada governorate. Many are living with families in Khamer or in rented houses, while others occupy public places such as schools or live in tents on the outskirts of the town.

Dr. Berbain is standing in an area where the population has jumped from three families to 85 familes. MSF is running mobile medical clinic and relief distribution there.

In Aden, in southern Yemen, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is independently running a hospital that is now located in the middle of the fighting. Despite this, medical teams are still receiving and treating injured patients on a daily basis. About 1,000 patients have been treated since the beginning of the clashes on March 19.

A fuel blockade in Yemen is preventing people from accessing humanitarian aid. Displaced people continue to flee their homes for safety in the town of Khamer, where Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is suporting the public hospital. But the lack of fuel means people cannot reach medical care and the consequences are disastrous.
