As fighting moves into districts surrounding Lashkar Gah, capital of Afghanistan’s Helmand province, sick and injured people are struggling to reach the city’s Boost Hospital, a 300-bed facility run by Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in partnership with the Afghan Ministry of Health.

Patients report that roads are blocked and checkpoints are delaying them from reaching the hospital. After major clashes, fewer patients can reach the hospital for critical needs.

On Thursday, July 7, six Afghan men were refused entry to the migrant camp in Grande-Synthe, France. Set up in March 2016, the camp was constructed to offer shelter to all refugees in need of safe lodging and basic services. The town council that manages the site in partnership with the French government and the camp manager, the French aid organization AFEJI, now say that men traveling alone will not be allowed access to the camp.

In 2011, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) opened a hospital dedicated to providing care to women living in rural areas in northeastern Pakistan. On May 18, 2016, Peshawar Women’s Hospital marked its fifth anniversary. Today, the hospital admits around 85 patients every week and safely delivers more than 4,700 babies each year.

Every morning, two Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) vehicles pull up in front of one of the three stadiums that comprise the sports complex of Elliniko, in a suburb of the Greek capital, Athens. Built on a former airfield, the stadiums were put up for the 2004 Olympic Games. Now they house men, women, and children who fled their countries in search of safety in Europe.
