Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams have reported strong winds and heavy rains in the city of Tacloban, as Typhoon Hagupit made landfall in the city of Dolores in eastern Samar at 9:15 pm Saturday evening. At this stage, the level of damage in Samar is unclear as power and communication were cut across most of the island.

Sources have reported that parts of some barangays, or villages, in northwest Samar are under water, and a few islands in the west of Samar have been washed out.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) hygienists in the Ebola case management center (CMC) in Bo, Sierra Leone are armed against the virus. Their weapon of choice? Chlorine.  

"Our hygienists are on the frontline against Ebola," says Daniel Baschiera, water and sanitation manager for MSF. "They see themselves as combatting an invisible enemy. Using their spray tanks filled with chlorine solution they keep the rest of the staff safe."

Maartje Hoetjes, a Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) nurse and emergency team member, shares some experiences from her time at Leer hospital in South Sudan.

Two people with gunshot wounds are brought to the MSF hospital in Leer. They were at a wedding celebration the previous evening when someone entered and started shooting. Five people were seriously injured. Two of them managed to reach our hospital but the other three died on the way.
