Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are coordinating on the ground to provide support and assistance to people who have been evacuated from East Aleppo. As a first step, medical and logistical teams conducted needs assessments in the region.

MSF also sent medicines and other medical supplies to a hospital in Aqrabat that is receiving wounded people who were evacuated from East Aleppo. The hospital is roughly six kilometers away from Atmah, where MSF’s warehouse is located.

As the evacuation of civilians from besieged sections of Aleppo gets underway, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are positioned in Atimah, in Idlib governorate, roughly 35 kilometers [21 miles] away from Al Atareb in Aleppo governorate. They have with them 45 tons of medical supplies—mainly drugs, consumables and medical equipment—and non-food items ready for distribution to those in need.

BARCELONA/NEW YORK, DECEMBER 13, 2016 — At this critical juncture in the conflict in the Syrian city of Aleppo, the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) today expressed outrage over the unremitting violence directed against civilians and the unresponsiveness of those who can stop it.

MSF called on all warring parties to abide by their obligation to protect civilians in both the besieged areas and in areas newly taken over by the Syrian government.
