In Memoriam: James AgutNovember 30, 2007It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our much respected Sudanese colleague James Agut. James was among four people who were beaten to death in the Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) compound in Bor, South Sudan, while trying to escape violent clashes that had erupted inside the hospital. His father is also among the dead. James Agut, 28, was working as a guard in the outreach programme of MSF in Lekongole, near Pibor, around 100 kilometers east of Bor. He had been transferred to the hospital for medical treatment and his father had travelled with him. When fighting broke out in the health facility, MSF staff evacuated eight people but they were later attacked inside the MSF compound. Four people died, one was seriously injured, and three others narrowly escaped. James had been working with MSF since 2005. For MSF colleagues in Sudan and around the world, James' death adds to the grief and anger over the brutal attack inside the MSF facilities in Bor.
