MSF Grieves Death of Colleague in Abuja, NigeriaSeptember 16, 2008
Bradley Burlingham On Friday, September 5, 2008, Bradley Burlingham, a member of the Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) team in Nigeria, died in a tragic accident just as he was beginning his first assignment with MSF. MSF’s deepest sympathies are with Brad’s family during this very painful time. Brad died in Abuja, Nigeria prior to traveling south to the MSF project in Port Harcourt. A nurse anesthetist, Brad was preparing to join the MSF surgical team at Teme Hospital, which carries out trauma and other surgical procedures for the population at large. A resident of Fairlawn, Ohio, Brad graduated from the St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center School for Nurse Anesthetists in 1990 and recently left the Akron General Medical Center, where he has worked since 1995, to join MSF. Brad is fondly remembered by all those in MSF who met and worked with him. His enthusiasm, gentle demeanor, warmth, kindness, and sincere and passionate motivation to address the humanitarian needs of others left strong and permanent impressions on the staff. He was very much looking forward to applying his unique skills to assisting the people of Port Harcourt. We are extremely saddened that he did not have the opportunity to do so. A memorial service and celebration of Brad’s life will be held on September 19th at Cuyahoga Valley Church, 5055 East Wallings Roard, Broadview Heights, Ohio.
