'The sixth time, I could not take it anymore'

Patient testimony from a 14-year-old boy in Liberia

March 4, 2009

I went to the shop to buy toilet paper for my uncle and I noticed a guy staring at me. Then he came over and asked my name. I didn’t want to tell him my real name, so I said it was ‘Junior’. He asked where I lived and invited me to come to his house.

I didn’t want to go, so I said I was going to play football. But he insisted, so I decided to go. When I got there, he started taking his clothes off and I asked, “What are you doing?” He said, “I am going to have sex with you.” Then he raped me.

It happened five times. The sixth time, I could not take it anymore. I started yelling and managed to escape. I was taken to hospital and they took care of me.  He was arrested and is still in jail now. When I think about it, I feel awful. I regret that I ever let him have sex with me.
