Burundi: Fistulas, the 'Backyard Disease'

March 4, 2011

Women can develop fistulas when they survive a complicated birth without proper medical care; as a result they become incontinent. In Burundi, women with fistulas are often ostracized by society and even by their own family. But fistulas are not inevitable. All women in developing countries need access to the necessary obstetric care.
