Colombia: Treating Tuberculosis in Buenaventura

July 27, 2011

In the port city of Buenaventura, the prevalence of tuberculosis is four times greater than elsewhere in the country. Some patients develop drug-resistant forms of the disease, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars to treat. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) provides technical support to the national TB program, with the goal of improving diagnosis and follow-up for patients resistant to first-line treatment.
