Abidjan, Ivory Coast

November 9, 2004

The situation remains very tense in Abidjan, the Ivory Coast, following the violence of the past week. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has donated medical and surgical material to two hospitals in the Treichville and Port-Boué sections of the city to aid in treating the wounded.

MSF teams also continue to work in the northern and western parts of the country. Additional MSF personnel are on standby, but with the Abidjan airport closed, MSF cannot get teams members or emergency materials into the country for the moment.
