When I gave birth to Jose I didn't believe he would live past his first birthday. That's what they told me at the hospital, so I started collecting mementos of him.
I kept his umbilical cord and his hospital bracelet. I also kept the syringe I used during the first weeks to give Jose his medicines. And I started keeping a diary.
The photograph in this picture was taken on his first birthday. We had a huge cake because it was a very special party for us.
