"Into The Crisis Zone"
SUDAN

Human rights specialist Leslie Lefkow is at home in Amsterdam, preparing to leave for the desolate war-torn landscape of southern Sudan. This will be the second time MSF has sent her to the fiercely contested, oil-rich region, caught in a self-perpetuating cycle of war, displacement, famine, and disease for the last 20 years.

On this mission, Leslie flies deep into isolated territory in the Nuba Mountains. Her task is to collect interviews for an MSF report detailing the horrific consequences of the war on Sudanese civilians – an emotionally tough assignment even for a seasoned professional.

The second leg of Leslie’s trip takes her to a clinic run by Kate Doan, an English doctor on her second MSF mission. Kate is unflappable – a valuable characteristic for a doctor working in a clinic with a functioning bomb shelter.

In the space of the next 24 hours, Kate and Leslie are forced to take cover as the whine of a Sudanese government bomber draws near. Leslie befriends an old woman who is weary of decades of war, and Kate is forced to confront a badly wounded soldier who needs treatment that he won’t accept.
