Sierra Leone:

Peace negotiations are moving forward in Sierra Leone, but the public health infrastructure remains fragile to non-existent. In many parts of the country, most are unable to access even the most basic health services and obstetric care. In the isolated Mile 91 region, American nurse Mary Jo Frawley and Sierra Leonean nurse John Koroma bring hope and healing to people who have been without medical attention for years. At a quiet country health clinic, John and Mary Jo find two such people – a malnourished child and a woman who has just given birth with complications. Afghanistan:

Several months after the Taliban’s defeat, Afghanistan presents MSF and other aid agencies with a new opportunity to provide health care for the female population of the conservative Islamic state. In other regards, however, the conditions in one of the poorest countries on earth remain unchanged; a devastating drought is entering its fourth year and hundreds of thousands of displaced people roam the country without adequate food, water, or medical care. One hour south of former Taliban stronghold Kandahar, Dr. Rachel Hardwick treats patients in the infectious disease ward of Mir Wais hospital – a war-damaged district hospital that MSF logistician Sander Hammer is helping to re-build.(read more about Afghanistan)
