Digital Marketing Associate, Temporary

I. Purpose of the Job

A passionate and creative thinker who, under the guidance of the Digital Marketing Manager for Web and Email, makes MSF-USA's digital campaigns happen. On any given day this position may be designing emails destined for hundreds of thousands of inboxes, building a landing page seen around the world, or identifying trends to help us grow our digital program.

II. Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Builds emails in our in-house blast email system
  • Manages the calendar for email communications
  • Designs email assets as necessary, including photo imagery
  • Strategizes with the team on audience segmentation and constructs those groups
  • Find trends in email reports to inform future decisions
  • Creates landing pages within our Drupal CMS and Shorthand
  • Optimizes our Google Analytics account and produces reports
  • Identifies powerful, response-driving photo imagery
  • Develops a mastery of the digital program’s files and record keeping

Required Skills:

Director of Development Systems

Position Responsibilities

 

The Director of Development Systems is a member of the Development Managers platform and plays a critical role in MSF-USA’s ability to operate an extremely diverse, complex and fast-paced fundraising program. The Development Systems team serves the entire Development department, acting like a central nervous system supporting all fundraising operations, from massive multi-step omni-channel marketing campaigns to supporting the growth of high-touch relationships with major donors, foundations and corporations.

 

Under the general direction of the Director of MSF-USA’s fundraising department, the Director of Development Systems leads a collaborative process of assessing, planning and implementing changes to fundraising systems along with continuously optimizing and improving existing processes and routines within the department. Systems planning and maintenance must meet the strategic and practical needs of all units of Development and provide the required financial and data-quality controls and reporting mechanisms for end-users and decision-makers.

 

The Director of Development Systems must guide continuous systems improvement along all available avenues, including but not limited to:

  • developing and improving technological systems to support dynamic and diverse fundraising campaigns across all business units, meanwhile tracking all donor activity and history so that interaction and transaction data are available in a variety of formats to support decision making
  • providing new ways to synthesize, review and visualize data
  • restructuring and recalibrating work routines and job responsibilities across the team to handle sudden spikes in donation, call and mail volume, along with changing needs across the department
  • managing and constantly improving data quality routines managed by staff and vendors
  • pushing vendors to maximize service to MSF and its donors while keeping costs under control
  • conducting extensive vendor search and selection projects which result in lasting relationships between MSF and its market-leading business partners.

 

The Director of Development Systems must also ensure all staff and vendors dedicated to fundraising systems and analytics are operating efficiently and effectively. S/he is responsible for implementing and improving mechanisms which result in continuous quality improvement of donor data and sustained increases in systems efficiency.

 

The Director of Development Systems must work seamlessly with the Marketing Director to ensure the data management and reportability of all marketing campaigns is timely and quality-controlled. S/he must also ensure the Donor Service team and MSF’s outsourced call centers have access to all the data and systems they need to provide maximum support and service to MSF’s donors.

 

The Director of Development Systems will work closely with the Director of Systems at MSF-USA who will coordinate all comprehensive technological changes made to critical business applications across the office. The Director of Development Systems directly manages both a Fundraising Systems Manager and a Senior Analyst who in turn supervise their own staff.  S/he ensures information sharing from both groups to enhance practices across the board.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 6-8 years directly relevant work experience required, plus a Bachelor’s degree in business or related area, or equivalent combination of training and experience, including:
    • Min. 5 yrs. systems/technical management in a Development department.
    • Min. 3 yrs. experience with a donor database with over 500,000 active records.
    • Min. 3 yrs. experience with business process reengineering in a Development dept.
    • Min. 3 yrs project management; vendor management including contract negotiation, and demonstrated ability to bring complex projects in on-time and on-budget.
  • High level knowledge of fundraising databases, workflows, documentation, data integrity, quality control, financial controls and audits.
  • Demonstrated understanding of goals of various branches of Development Demonstrated ability to clearly document complex technical and business processes.
  • Knowledge of and experience with continuous quality improvement strategies and methods.
  • Knowledge of PII security and privacy compliance
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency using MS Office and extensive knowledge of Excel and fundraising database management. SQL experience a plus.
  • Experience managing complex vendor relationships and maximizing productivity of outside vendors and consultants
  • Organized, detail-oriented, creative, problem-solving, strong analytical skills, strong written and oral communication, high energy, fast paced, deal with pressure and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, move projects from conceptual stages to launch, and handle multiple and often competing deadlines.
  • Strong manager; facilitator; integrator, with min. 3 years staff management experience.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex information and use it to develop and coordinate systems that improve efficiency.

Marketing Data Quality Specialist

1. Purpose of the Job

The Marketing Data Quality Specialist is a detail-obsessed problem solver with an analytical mind who ensures the Marketing team has the high-quality data we need to reach our target donor audiences, shape our strategies and raise big funds.

You will manage data and data quality for fundraising and cultivation campaigns across all channels, including direct mail, email, and telemarketing. You have the critical job of ensuring we are reaching the right donor segments with the right creative in a campaign — and that we are able to effectively measure and report campaign performance and testing.

On any given day you might be:

  • pulling, transforming and loading data from our donor database;
  • auditing data quality, investigating and fixing data problems;
  • reviewing campaign segmentation plans to ensure top down logic is in line with strategy.

This is an opportunity for someone with a head for data, a passion for international humanitarian work and an interest in non-profit marketing to develop skills for working with massive amounts of data to execute strategic marketing plans. 2. Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures marketing strategies are correctly implemented in campaign segmentation.
  • Ensures data pulled from donor database are correctly segmented for mail and telemarketing campaigns.
  • Ensures campaign data files uploaded to donor database are accurate.
  • Participates in weekly calls with marketing agency, donor database and analytic vendors to help troubleshoot pending data issues as they pertain to segmentation strategy and execution.
  • Works closely with web strategy vendor and Digital Marketing Manager to confirm audience data are segmented, extracted and loaded correctly into email blasting tool.
  • Creates, manages and implements source codes to track behavior and revenue, and to ensure accurate data analysis for testing results and fundraising strategies.
  • Ensures results from all solicitation campaigns across all channels are entered or uploaded into donor database. 
  • Audits data synchronization between donor database of record and third-party fundraising and communication platforms, and troubleshoots problems.
  • Supports implementation of all vendor models and overlays; manages updates and reporting of Quarterly Index Data. 
  • Performs quality control audits on key dashboards and reports.  Troubleshoots errors and fixes source data or identifies transformation problems. 
  • Fulfills ad-hoc data requests from donor database users as necessary.
  • Manages and updates all procedural documentation related to Marketing Data Quality Specialist functions on an on-going basis; provides instructional documentation to vendors and consultants as needed.

3. Requirements

  • Minimum 2 yrs. relevant work experience, preferably in a non-profit, plus Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Temporary Marketing Associate

1. Purpose of the Job

The Marketing Associate is the detail-obsessed problem solver who gets our marketing campaigns out the door on time and to high quality standards. Under the guidance of the Direct Marketing Manager, you coordinate creative and production processes across all channels—print, email, web, advertising and more—with a focus on direct mail creative.

On any given day you may be setting up interviews with aid workers to use in fundraising letters, fact-checking brochure copy about our surgical projects in conflict zones, or searching for that just-right photo for a digital ad. Or you might be routing a radio ad script for approval, reconciling conflicting edits from senior staff, trouble-shooting schedule challenges and bidding out a postcard mailing to a production house.

You help the marketing team bring stories from the field to the donors in order to deepen their support for Doctors Without Borders—and raise big funds.

2. Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates direct mail campaigns using digital workflow software, monitors deadlines and proactively communicates and problem-solves with vendors and colleagues to keep multiple campaigns to deadline.
  • Routes creative materials for approval. Proofreads, fact-checks and ensures messaging consistency. Helps troubleshoot creative challenges and reconcile conflicting staff edits. Edits and rewrites copy as necessary.
  • Sets up interviews with field staff. Researches staff backgrounds and compiles profiles, conducts interviews as necessary, supervises Marketing Intern to transcribe audio files.
  • Performs detailed creative, production and data quality check of all print personalization setups in order to ensure data integrity.
  • Conducts creative background research and photo searches.
  • Responsible for coding and processing invoices with support of Marketing Intern.
  • Monitors field activities and operational updates to appropriately represent Doctors Without Borders in marketing materials and curate strong content for campaigns.
  • Manages marketing file digital and hard copy archives and shares creative with USA office and fundraising departments of international offices as required.
  • Bids out print projects to production houses, checks production cost estimates.
  • Supervises Marketing Intern to support all creative and production needs.

3. Requirements:

  • 1-2 years relevant marketing, journalism or publishing experience plus Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • An expert researcher, proofreader, copyeditor, and fact checker
  • An obsessive approach to quality control and accuracy, with an eye on the tiniest details
