Emergency Supplies to North OssetiaA team from MSF delivered emergency medical supplies to the health authorities in Beslan, North Ossetia. At the beginning of the hostage crisis, MSF contacted the health ministry to offer support and quickly supplied a number of items, including four medical kits containing dressing materials, endotracheal tubes, catheters, iv fluids, and other materials. A three-person team arrived in Beslan last Staurday, visiting hospitals, delivering the medical supplies, and discussing the situation with health authorities and other NGOs. The immediate medical needs have been met for an estimated period of 3-4 days. Approximately 70% of hospitalized patients, though, are expected to remain in the hospitals for 2-4 weeks and thus require additional supplies. Most of the patients, roughly half of whom are children, suffer from gun-shot wounds and burns. MSF will continue to monitor the situation and look into possible mid-term needs.
