MSF Continues Work in Mitrovia, Despite Attacks on Humanitarian ActorsPristina/New York, June 27, 2000 — Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) strongly condemns the attacks on humanitarian staff that led the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other humanitarian actors to suspend temporarily their activities in North Mitrovica. Nevertheless, due to the important needs of the populations, MSF has decided to continue its activities in all parts of the city. MSF is also continuing to provide humanitarian assistance to all communities living in North Mitrovica, where it runs mobile clinics and mental health activities and supports the Mitrovica Hospital. In addition to denouncing the recent attacks on humanitarian actors, MSF calls attention to the deterioration of living conditions for minority groups in various enclaves and in North Mitrovica. MSF has been working in Kosovo since 1993. In the region of Mitrovica, the medical organization is presently running activities in the municipalities of Mitrovica, Skenderaj/Srbica and Vushtrri/Vushtrr. MSF activities include mobile clinics; mental health projects; reconstruction, rehabilitation, and support for medical structures; well-cleaning; and water and sanitation activities for schools.
