Global Fund Adopts New Grant ModelGENEVA/NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 14, 2012—At its meeting today in Geneva, the board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria approved a new funding model, which avoided imposing caps for countries applying for funding. In November, the board will decide on further details pertaining to the new model. Please find below comments from Sharonann Lynch, HIV/AIDS policy advisor with the Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Campaign for Access to Essential Medicines, regarding this decision. "In deciding a new funding model, the Global Fund thankfully rejected efforts to enforce caps on country proposals to address HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. Going forward, the Global Fund and affected countries need to make sure any further decisions do not impose unfair limits on disease-fighting grant proposals that could help save lives and prevent illness," Lynch said.
