MSF has been working in Bulgaria since 1997

MSF works to increase access to health care for some of Bulgaria's most marginalized people, many excluded from health care by 1999 health-sector reforms, and also runs effective programs targeting sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS. Between August 2002 and July 2003, MSF provided 6,877 STD consultations, 110 group counseling sessions and 1,021 HIV tests in the capital Sofia. In February 2003, the Ministry of Health chose the program as the site for the training of doctors on reproductive health and STD management. MSF also provides primary health care in the Sofia suburbs, where many Roma (Gypsies) live.
