MSF has been working in Ecuador since 1995

Since April 2002, MSF has worked to improve the quality of health care for people at three public health centers in Flor de Bastión, a slum of Guayaquil. Activities include training and supervision of health personnel, prenatal and postnatal care, family planning, and prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). MSF also promotes STD prevention in schools and community organizations outside the slum. In the province of Sucumbios, along the Putumayo River (which forms the border between Ecuador and Colombia), a mobile clinic program serving Ecuadorian and Colombian communities ended in March 2003 after three years of work. In October 2002, MSF provided emergency assistance after the eruption of the Reventador volcano.
