MSF provides health care for people in Pankisi, Tbilisi and Abkhazia, a separatist Georgian republic devastated by civil war. In Tbilisi, a free polyclinic provides over 1,000 consultations each month. MSF also makes home visits to home-bound patients. In Sukhumi, Abkhazia, MSF screens for and treats tuberculosis, including drug-resistant cases, and also provides general medical care and surgery for vulnerable people through several clinics. In Akhmeta, near the entrance to the Pankisi valley, surgical assistance at the local hospital benefits area residents as well as refugees from Chechnya who have taken shelter in the region.
