PublicationsInternational Activity Report 2003Ivory Coast
International staff: 57 MSF has been working in the Ivory Coast since 1990. Until recently, work in Côte d'Ivoire has focused on aid to inmates at the MACA prison in Abidjan. As the onset of civil war in September 2002 shocked the previously peaceful country, MSF work expanded to emergency response on both sides of the front line. MSF is present at Man hospital near the Liberian border and Korhogo and Bouaké hospitals in the rebel-controlled north, providing emergency care and responding to outbreaks of disease. Mobile clinics reach isolated people in the country's west, where the health care system has all but collapsed. |
