MSF has been working in Thailand since 1983

Comprehensive care and treatment for those with HIV/AIDS continues to be the main focus of MSF's operations in Thailand, where one million people are HIV-positive. In Bangkok, and in Surin, Rayong, Non Thaburi (Bang Kruai district), Pethburi (Ban Laem) and Kalacin (Kutchinarai district), MSF provides antiretroviral (ARV) treatment to AIDS patients in a variety of settings, with over 851 people under treatment as of late July 2003, including 113 children.

Depending on the program site, MSF projects can include home visits, clinical care, treatment of opportunistic infections, and technical assistance to district and provincial hospitals. MSF has also been an instrumental advocate for lower ARV drug prices in the country. In addition to its AIDS-related work, MSF provides medical care (treatment for tuberculosis, multi-drug resistant tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS) for 44,000 Karen refugees living in camps in Maesot and Ratchaburi, and for about 7,000 Mon people across the Thailand- Myanmar border. In Maesot, MSF runs a tuberculosis program for migrant workers from Myanmar.
