MSF has been in Ukraine since 1999

MSF continues to provide affordable and replicable medical care and psychological support for people living with HIV/AIDS in Ukraine, with special emphasis on the southern region, which is the country's epicenter for the AIDS epidemic. MSF's program aimed at preventing mother-to-child transmission of the disease has been successful in reducing the transmission rate from 30% (without intervention) to 12%. MSF has also opened a satellite clinic at the Regional Maternity Hospital in Odessa, equipped the laboratory at the Odessa Regional AIDS Center, and established a psychosocial support program for HIV-positive people in three regional centers: Odessa, Mikolayev, and Simferopol. MSF also treats AIDS-related opportunistic infections in these three regions, where 19 children are also receiving antiretroviral treatment.
