Experienced Field Coordinators

Field coordinators serve as Project Coordinators or Heads of Mission and are responsible for operational, financial, and human resources management, as well as communication with and representation of MSF toward local, national, and international actors.

Field coordinators play a key role in the design, implementation, and evaluation of project activities in medical, logistical, and administrative areas. Coordinators must remain alert to the various contexts of a project/country and to evolving humanitarian needs, and may submit proposals for new MSF programs and/or carry out project closures.

Field coordinators are also charged with staff safety and security and for the management and supervision of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Must meet general requirements
  • Minimum 1-year commitment with flexible start date and no preference for project location
  • Minimum of 3 years recent field experience as an expatriate with an international humanitarian and/or emergency organization, with at least 1 year spent in a field management position
  • Minimum of two assignments in at least two different contexts in developing countries, e.g. having worked in (1) an insecure context and (2) an emergency response situation
  • Previous experience in project cycle management in a non-governmental organization or development context
  • Demonstrated human resources management experience in supervising, managing, and coaching a team of ten or more staff
  • Understanding of MSF’s principles and medical activities (medical knowledge) allowing for confident representation of the organization
  • Analytical and strategic thinking skills and a capacity to develop an operational vision over the short and medium term
  • Capability for initiative in identifying humanitarian issues of interest to MSF – leading, where appropriate, to a launch of exploratory missions, development of new projects, and/or initiation of project closures
  • Willingness to work in unstable environments
  • Ability to take responsibility for security management
  • Proven negotiation and problem solving skills
  • Positive public communication skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team
  • Good command of English and French preferred
