Medical Aid Workers: The medical staff composition of each program can vary greatly and is determined by the coordination teams at MSF headquarters together with coordinators in the field.
Anesthesiologists / Nurse Anesthetists 
  • Minimum commitment of at least 4 to 6 weeks
  • Current or recent practical experience
    (i.e. at least 6 months of clinical practice within the last 2 years)
  • Ability to work with limited technical resources

Specialists in Infectious Diseases, HIV/AIDS, TB 
  • Minimum commitment of 9 to 12 months
  • M.D. or D.O. and current license
  • Completion of a residency program

Nurse-Midwives / Certified Midwives

  • Appropriate degree and/or certificate in midwifery
  • Current or recent practical experience

Laboratory Scientists/Technicians

  • Must have one of the following credentials:
    -  Degree or diploma in laboratory technology
    -  Degree in microbiology with applied medical
        parasitology, bacteriology, and immunology

Non-medical Aid Workers: Although MSF is an emergency medical organization, it could never survive without its logistical, technical, and financial personnel. They are the backbone of every MSF aid program.

  • Technical knowledge in at least two of the following areas:
    -  Communications
    -  Construction
    -  Energy and electricity
    -  General Mechanics
    -  Information technology

  • Minimum of 3 years recent field experience as an expatriate with an international humanitarian and/or emergency organization, with at least 1 year spent in a field management position
  • Minimum of two assignments in at least two different contexts in developing countries, e.g. having worked in (1) an insecure context and (2) an emergency response situation
