Development Systems Director
MSF-USA is currently seeking a Development Systems Director to direct a Donor Services call center and inbound telemarketing vendor, ensuring timely and professional customer support in response to donor calls and correspondence with messaging that reflects the voice of our organization, solid documentation and data capture for all donor interactions, and development of systems to support customer service; and to lead a collaborative process of assessing, planning and implementing fundraising systems that meet the strategic and practical needs of all units of Development and provide the required financial controls and reporting mechanisms. This includes, but is not limited to, developing and improving systems to track donor activity, information and history so that data is available in a variety of formats to sustain routine transactions and complex analysis, that ensures accuracy of data, ensuring MSF’s compliance with credit card industry security standards and promotes operational efficiency, and managing and directing partnerships with vendors that provide essential systems and business process services to the Development department, such as donor information software, caging, data entry, online and monthly giving, processing of donation acknowledgements, and marketing support.
Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Systems Director is a key member of the Development Department’s management team.
Position responsibilities:

Coordinates annual development budget process including oversight of the creation of both the Fundraising Systems and Donor Services budgets as well as the compilation of the budgets provided by each of the fundraising teams. This includes during the annual budget as well as subsequent re-forecasts. Establishes short- and long-range goals for development systems and donor services

Collaborates with full development department to create and implement annual Development Systems plan, designed to continually improve the efficacy and efficiency of departmental systems and donor service, under the general direction of the Director of Development.

Analyzes activities, costs, and operations to determine progress toward stated goals and objectives.

Confers with Director of Development and other administrative personnel (e.g. Finance) to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives resulting from current status and conditions.

Consults with Development unit management and personnel to identify and document their needs and objectives, current operational procedures, problems, input and output requirements, data scope, usage, formatting, and security requirements in order to develop new or modified information processing systems.

Provides as needed analysis of development activities and costs including those related to fundraising and donor trends.

Works with software vendors to identify ways to meet evolving needs of user community through use of new functionality, enhanced configuration and third-party tools.

Manages the fulfillment of ad hoc data and reporting requests.

Analyses and reengineers business processes to continually improve efficiency, add appropriate layers of redundancy and cross-checking, and to ensure full integration between software and business practices across all in-house and outsourced tasks.

Researches and implements applicable computer programs for development department use.

Devises and implements methods to ensure quality of all data including $1000+ gifts, inbound telemarketing data processing, general gift processing, EFT processing, online donation processing, data entry and backend mailings, monthly reports on revenue streams via marketing, major gifts and foundations and corporations.

Analyzes data gathered to evaluate effectiveness of controls and determine accuracy of reports and efficiency and security of our fundraising systems. Ensures MSF’s compliance with credit card industry security standards.

Facilitates reconciliation of revenue data among caging, donor information and accounting systems in close collaboration with Finance.
Qualifications:

Minimum 6-8 years directly relevant work experience required, plus a Bachelor’s degree in business or related area, or equivalent combination of training and experience, including:

Min. 5 yrs. systems/technical management in a Development department.

Min. 3 yrs. experience with a donor database with over 500,000 active records.

Min. 3 yrs. experience with business process reengineering in a Development dept.

Min. 3 yrs project management; vendor management including contract negotiation, and demonstrated ability to bring complex projects in on-time and on-budget.

High level knowledge of fundraising databases, workflows, documentation, data integrity, quality control, financial controls, etc.

Demonstrated understanding of goals of various branches of Development and direct experience with donor relationship management.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative team.

Excellent computer skills including proficiency using MS Office and extensive knowledge of Excel and development database management. SQL experience a plus.

Experience managing complex vendor relationships and maximizing productivity of outside vendors and consultants

Organized, detail-oriented, creative, problem-solving, strong analytical skills, strong written and oral communication, high energy, fast paced, deal with pressure and deadlines.

Ability to work independently, move projects from conceptual stages to launch, and handle multiple and often competing deadlines.

Strong manager; facilitator; integrator, with min. 3 years staff management experience.

Ability to analyze and synthesize complex information and use it to develop and coordinate systems that improve efficiency.

Ability to write routine business correspondence.

Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.

Excellent judgment and diplomacy.

Demonstrated interest in the work of MSF strongly preferred.

Residence in or willingness to relocate to NYC metro area.
Starting salary low to mid 90s, commensurate with experience; excellent benefits.
