Myanmar - HIV-related blindness

You may or may not have heard of Cytomegalovirus retinitis, or CMV retinitis (much easier to pronounce). It has been described as the 'neglected disease of the HIV pandemic' and particularly affects countries in Southeast Asia. In short, it is an opportunistic disease that can lead to permanent blindness if left untreated. It typically affects severely ill HIV patients, or those with a CD4 count below 100. In Myanmar, MSF has been treating this disease since 2006.
