Even though Belgium has a well functioning sociam security system, many people do not have access to social security and, more specifically, basic health care. MSF works in three different cities in Belgium (LieÃÄge, Antwerp and Brussels) offering free medical assistance to the less fortuned. In 2003 MSF performed about 10.000 consultations on some 4.500 patients. Target population consists of illegal immigrants as well as poor and homeless people whom do not have money to pay for a doctor's visit. In 2003 4% of all patients had the belgian nationality, 70% came from non-european countries.
