An MSF logistics team refurbishes a remote health facility, south Bougainville, Papua New Guinea. *** Local Caption *** : Evidence of the decades-long conflict remains throughout the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. Decades of conflict devastated the health system on the island, which lost 25 per cent of its population during the crisis. Working alongside local health authorities, MSF is helping to build healthcare capacity in the far remote south of the island, with a focus on mothers and children. MSF has been working in Buin Health Clinic, the area's main medical facility, in the far south of Bougainville and five surrounding smaller health clinics since July 2011. Medical teams work alongside Department of Health staff to delivery healthcare and improve the skills of local staff, while logistics activities focus on rehabilitating the area's health infrastructure.
