During the second week of October 2005, the tropcial storm Stan hit Guatemala and El Salvador producing more than one thousand dead and thousands of damnified people. After some assessment of urgent needs by land or helicopter in all affected areas in western regions of Guatemala, MSF carried out an intervention providing water and basic aid-kits. Later on MSF consolidated activities with water and sanitation focus and epidemiological monitoring, specially in areas of high risk of malaria and dengue, which are also the most affected areas. In addition, MSF lead an intervention on mental health to assist the people who lost part of their families and their properties."
