MSF vaccinated 31,126 children against measles during a 15 day campaign in the crowded slum area of Machar Colony, in Karachi, Pakistan. MSF has been running a primary and emergency healthcare and obstetric clinic in Machar Colony since 2012. Measles is a common problem in Karachi, especially in a slum area such as Machar Colony, which is densely populated, with around 115,000 people living in close proximity, so the transmission of the disease occurs quite quickly and easily. Due to the suspicion with which vaccination campaigns are regarded in Pakistan, extensive engagement with the community was undertaken prior to carrying out the campaign so that it could be effective and safe.
