MSFÕs hospital for complicated obstetrics (CRUO) in Port-au-Prince has seen an unprecedented increase in patient numbers in 2015 as there are simply not enough options elsewhere for healthcare. Many women who come to give birth have been turned away several times from other institutions before arriving at MSFÕs CRUO hospital. This is in large part because both donors and the Haitian government have reduced healthcare spending in Haiti, making it ever harder for patients to receive the care they need.
