8-month-old Ayashi Ibrahim lies on a hospital bed in Hodeidah, Yemen, suffering from severe acute malnutrition. This is the second time he has been admitted to the Malnutrition Centre, at Al-Thawra hospital.
In September 2016 MSF supported Al-Thawra hospital with IV fluids, bandages and antibiotics following an airstrike, 21 September, on a crowded marketplace which killed 21 and injured many more.
According to Tahani, a nurse who has been working in the hospital for the past ten years, during the first five months of this year at least 50 new cases of malnutrition were admitted each month and every two days one of those children died from complications due to malnutrition.
"By the time parents are able to afford transportation costs, its almost too late for treatment."
