Syria: Medics Report Massive Casualties in Eastern Ghouta

BRUSSELS/NEW YORK—A relentless military offensive in Syria's besieged eastern Ghouta enclave is causing widespread disaster and massive casualties, with at least 4,829 people wounded and 1,005 dead within two weeks, the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said today, drawing on data from hospitals and clinics that MSF supports.

Nigeria: MSF Suspends Medical Activities in Rann Following Attack

March 02, 2018

GENEVA/NEW YORK, MARCH 2, 2018—Following a violent attack yesterday near Rann, in Nigeria's Borno state, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) suspended its medical activities in the town and evacuated 22 Nigerian and international staff.

It is still unclear how many people were killed and injured in the attack, but before leaving, MSF medical staff treated nine wounded patients.

Syria: Siege on East Ghouta Leaves Medical Care in Complete Collapse

MSF is calling for an immediate ceasefire in order to treat the sick and wounded in Syria's besieged East Ghouta enclave. Hospitals and clinics supported by MSF in East Ghouta have seen more than 520 dead and treated 2,500 wounded after just five days of intense bombing and shelling between February 18 and February 23, among them many women and children.

Meanwhile, lifesaving medical supplies urgently needed to treat mass casualties are being restricted by the ongoing siege on the area.
