Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières teams in Gaza have provided post-operative care to more than 500 people injured by gunshots since April 1, amid clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinian protesters engaged in the Great Return March. The number of patients treated in MSF's three medical clinics in Gaza over the last few weeks is more than the number treated by MSF throughout all of 2014, when Israel’s Operation Protective Edge was launched in the Gaza Strip.

The initiative aims to raise public awareness of a neglected disease that affects the health of more than 6 million people around the world, especially in Latin America where it is endemic.

Roughly 60,000 people have been displaced from eastern Ghouta, near Damascus, to northwestern Syria in the past month. A significant number of these men, women, and children are injured or sick and in need of medical care. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) supports the main hospital in charge of triaging and treating these patients at a location known as the "zero point," where people arrive on buses.

APRIL 5, 2018—Clinics operated by the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) have provided postoperative care to 102 patients who suffered gunshot wounds during recent demonstrations in the Gaza Strip. MSF is increasing its capacity in the event more people are wounded in further demonstrations.
