Due to the absence of “global” solution to provide the pneumonia vaccine at an affordable price during emergencies, MSF had to pay more than 20 times the lowest global price to vaccinate more than 5000 children against the disease in Greece. Pfizer and GSK, the manufacturers of the vaccine, have refused to reduce the price of the vaccine. The number of patients treated by Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) on a weekly basis in the UN Protection of Civilians Camp (PoC) in Malakal, South Sudan, has tripled since June, as overcrowding and substandard living conditions in the camp continue to jeopardize people's health.
