This week, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) opened a new hospital for Rohingya refugees at the heart of the vast Kutupalong-Balukhali camp in Bangladesh. Known as “the hospital on the hill,” it is easy to spot perched atop one of the many hills that form the landscape of Cox’s Bazar district.

Myanmar: MSF Expands Flood Response Amid Dengue Concerns

Two weeks after severe flooding affected an estimated one million people across Myanmar, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is expanding its support to the government’s response in both Rakhine State and the Sagaing Region.

This will both help meet the immediate needs of those directly affected by flooding and also mitigate the elevated risk facing communities from water- and mosquito-borne infectious diseases, including malaria, diarrhea, and dengue fever.

A Flooded Refugee Camp in Ethiopia Becomes a Lake

A camp in a lake, a flooded hospital, and huts under water. With the onset of the rainy season, the tens of thousands of South Sudanese refugees in Lietchuor, Ethiopia, are even more vulnerable. This was Lietchuor refugee camp at the end of August—a lake of half-submerged huts. Water stagnates on the flat, bare terrain, making the camp uninhabitable for the 36,000 refugees during the rainy season. The only dry area is alongside the road running through the camp.

Solomon Islands: MSF Provides Care to Victims of Flash Floods

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is providing care in the Solomon Islands, a large group of islands in Oceania,  to people displaced from their homes by devastating flash floods in early April. Some 10,000 people were left homeless in the capital, Honiara, after floods swept away riverside communities, brought down bridges, destroyed roads, and damaged some health centers.
