AMMAN, JORDAN/NEW YORK, APRIL 24, 2018—Jordan’s recent decision to increase health care fees for Syrian refugees could reduce their access to medical assistance, making them even more vulnerable, the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said today, the first day of the Brussels Conference on Syria.

APRIL 24, 2018—An Italian court rejected an appeal today by the German humanitarian organization Jugend Rettet to release its search and rescue ship Iuventa, which was seized and impounded by Italian authorities in August 2017.

Thierry Saucier is an orthopedic surgeon for MSF in Gaza. He explains the complexity of caring for the hundreds of people injured during protests in recent weeks. Very serious injuries pose significant challenges for the surgeons, and will require months or even years of care.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières teams in Gaza have provided post-operative care to more than 500 people injured by gunshots since April 1, amid clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinian protesters engaged in the Great Return March. The number of patients treated in MSF's three medical clinics in Gaza over the last few weeks is more than the number treated by MSF throughout all of 2014, when Israel’s Operation Protective Edge was launched in the Gaza Strip.

MSF builds a new hospital for Rohingya refugees in Kutupalong-Balukhali camp, Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh

This week, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) opened a new hospital for Rohingya refugees at the heart of the vast Kutupalong-Balukhali camp in Bangladesh. Known as “the hospital on the hill,” it is easy to spot perched atop one of the many hills that form the landscape of Cox’s Bazar district.
