A charitable lead trust allows you to provide a stream of income for MSF's work while preserving assets for your heirs.
How a Charitable Lead Trust Works
You transfer cash, securities, or other assets to a trust. The trustee invests the assets, and the trust pays makes annual payments to MSF for a period of time you select. When the trust terminates, the remaining amount is paid to you or your heirs.
The trust may be a Charitable Lead Annuity Trust (fixed payments) or a Charitable Lead Unitrust (fixed percentage).
Benefits of a Charitable Lead Trust
- Reduction in transfer tax due on amount passing to your heirs.
- Any appreciation in trust value over the terms of the trust passes to your heirs free of gift and estate tax.
- Control over when your heirs inherit trust assets.
- The satisfaction of making a meaningful gift to MSF during your lifetime.
