Displaced in South Sudan: "I Left Running—There Was No Time to Take Anything"

More than 27,000 people have fled their homes in Yuai and Waat since mid-February after clashes between the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) and opposition groups. Those who escaped to Pieri have told MSF teams that civilians were shot at, raped, and killed and their houses burned to the ground. Now desperately short of food, water, and shelter, many of the displaced people are living under trees and eating leaves to survive.

Tanzania: Services for Burundian Refugees "Stretched Beyond Their Limits"

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) emergency coordinator Rachel Marsden just returned from Nyarugusu refugee camp in Tanzania. MSF began activities in the camp in mid-May 2015 in response to a mass influx of thousands of refugees from Burundi who fled political unrest. The camp, which has existed for 19 years, was originally home to 64,000 Congolese refugees. It is now well over capacity, with a growing population that has already swelled to more than 122,000. Here, Marsden discusses the situation.

Though cases of cholera have been recorded in Mozambique since December 2014, the epidemic escalated drastically in February, infecting some 3,500 people and killing 37.
