Dr. Lisa Umphrey
Dr. Lisa Umphrey MD is a pediatrician and an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. After completing her residency at the University of Wisconsin, she moved to rural eastern Uganda and worked with various small nonprofits to provide pediatric care and build pediatric capacity in the region. In 2013, she created ATLAS International, Inc, a US-based nonprofit organization, to support global health partnerships between Ugandan and US colleagues, which she still runs as Executive Director. In 2013, she joined MSF and completed several field missions before taking a headquarters position with MSF France as pediatric advisor, overseeing pediatric and neonatal care in projects worldwide. She joined faculty at the University of Colorado in 2021 to come back closer to home, and she works as a pediatric hospitalist, global health researcher, and director of the Pediatric Global Health Fellowship. She also serves in global health leadership and consulting roles with the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Association for Pediatric Program Directors, and the International Pediatric Association. She was elected to the board of directors of MSF USA in 2025.
