After a massive explosion in Beirut on August 4, 2020, there was widespread devastation across the city—physical and emotional. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams were on the ground providing wound care as well as mental health care for people affected by the disaster. Now two months later, on the eve of World Mental Health Day, MSF psychologist Sara Tannouri reflects on the longer-term impact of the explosion on people’s mental health and wellness, including her own.
